Niagara places of interest: Journey Behind The Falls

This thundering adventure literally brings visitors beneath and behind the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, for a wild and wet time up close and personal with one of the world's natural wonders. Protected by raingear included in the price of admission, visitors are taken 125 feet down and then another 650 feet through man-made tunnels. They come out at an observation area where the noise is deafening, the mist all-surrounding, and the view awe-inspiring. Audio tours are available in six languages.

Comments and reviews on Journey Behind The Falls

While staying at the Falls for our anniversary, we obtained some passes to this attraction. I guess I'll say that from far away, the Falls are very impressive. But when standing right next to them and you think about what is right there just a few feet away, it becomes phenomenal. The power of this natural wonder is awesome. All that water thundering down 24/7 is almost unimaginable. And as you might expect, it is quite loud too.
Like some other reviews have said, this attraction is for some people, not for others. If you're looking for some super exciting technological experience, don't go to this. But if you enjoy nature at its best, you might want to check this out.

We went to Niagara Falls in June and it was an expectacular experience overall. One of the things we has in a package purchased (do not purchase the packages at the hotels) was the Journey Behind the Falls.
You need to go down by some tunnels and you can go righ next to the falls. The view is beautifull.
You also can go to the back of the falls and feel the power of the water. It also has very educational information. I highly recommend this attraction.

We booked this with a tour. The tour was great but we were not impressed at all. You mainly are in a tunnel and see water falling. Very boring. Would not recommend.

We bought the package that included this attraction along with some others. This one, I am glad it came in the package because if I would have paid for this full price, I would have been upset. It is a cool concept to think that you will be going behind the falls, and it is true you will be going behind the fall, but what do you think you will see?
The wait was long and when we got there, yes you guess it, we seen alot of water falling or not much. The end was nicer as you will beside the fall, but after a minute of looking at it, we left.
Maybe it is for you, but I thought it was just average

My family and I thought the journey behind the falls was historical. We couldn't believe the sound and all of that water. Amazing. I recommend it!

Our then 10 year old was not too keen on the Maid of the Mist experience so we chose this as an alternative. We were impressed as was he! It showed an interesting facet of the falls without much moisture and total immersion. I'd do it again and I'm sure that my now 20 year old son would, as well. This is fun if you have small children who are hesitant about new experiences.

The journey behind the falls was amazing, I definitely recommend it for anyone who wants to truly experience the falls! The ponchos are a great keepsake, they last forever. If you only have time to do one thing in Niagara definitely journey behind the falls!

The whole complex was wonderful. It was quite crowded the day we visited (as I'm sure it is most days) but they handled everyone with speed and ease. The area under/behind the falls was kept clear of debris, and safe. And, although it wasn't what I expected, the entire time was fun, interesting, informative, and a good time was had by all.

A very close look at the falls from below and behind. Interesting history of the falls and the tunnels as you walk through. The trip gets you closer than you will get on the boats.

Stepping under Niagara falls is like kissing a unicorn, hugging a mermaid, or frolicking with sugarplum fairies for the bargain basement price of $4,000,000! There is not much to really be seen...lots of water pouring down. In fact, you might take a minute to wonder if you're running up to the end of each tunnel, if what you're seeing couldn't be at least a little more grandious. In fact, it is much more exciting to take the boats in front of the falls, if you happen to be there in season. But just to be able to say, "Hey, I walked under Niagara falls..." well, that's a bit difficult to pass up. Just bite the bullet, pay your cash, and go. You'll feel a little bit underwhelmed for the money, but you'll feel your life is a little more complete.

I never expected to enjoy this as much as I did. The wait in line was a little daunting at first but it was so worth it. My companions and I did the windows behind the falls first. Reading the information on the wall and trying to comprehend the wealth of information presented on those seemingly unimpressive squares.
When we stepped out on top the observation deck, I was breathless, literally. The pure water showering you gently from the falls, the up close view of the swirling water as the fals connected and that sound that only nature can give you.
If you get a chance go! Go off to the side and close your eyes for a minute and just experience your trip behind the falls.

Found the whole experience very much below average compared to the rest of the area. Even with scheduled arrivals the wait times were very long just to board the elevators and once in the actual tunnels there was little or nothing to see. We spent about 10 minutes there and left. Would not bother to go again.

We were really dissapointed by this. The view from near the foot of the falls was fun, but you get the same effect from the Maid of the Mist, and everyone does that anyway... But the view from 'behind' the falls was tacky at best, a very small opening (maybe 10ft x 10ft), but you were kept 15ft back from it. Dull. OK, it was not so expensive, but not even worth that. It seems to have had no new tunnelling for years. Dont bother to go until they re-invest and update it...

The Journey Behind the Falls was not too busy, nore too expensive. You could spend as much time (or as little) as you like, and go at your own pace. I liked the high-speed elevator (no stairs) and you could walk down the deep dark tunnels...right under the midle of the FALLS! It was so loud and so powerful that you could feel the vibration in your chest! Seeing the massive sheet of water endlessly falling...it was spectacular and made me feel really small. It was great!
